v0.1.3-alpha.2: The Cadence Cools, the Defaults Keep Moving

Four days ago this site covered the opening of the 0.1.3 series; v0.1.3-alpha.2 arrived on 2026-09-07, and the first thing worth noticing is the calendar: three days between alphas, against the 0.1.2 sprint’s five alphas in six days. The release itself is a steady, unspectacular increment — with the usual caveat that the defaults moved again.

Defaults and adaptations

SDK, Headless and ACP now default to read, write and edit for file editing; Web minimal and sdk-minimal keep their previous sets. Custom persona configuration is split into a prefix and a suffix, and the notes say plainly that existing configurations and related constants need updating. Ordinary subprocess handles lose their pid field, with terminal handles unaffected. None of these is labeled breaking, but two of them touch configuration that existing users may carry.

Subagent messaging grows up

The continuable-subagent work that ran through 0.1.2-rc.1 (send_message) and 0.1.3-alpha.1 (steer semantics) gets its control surface: queued messages to a subagent can now be edited, deleted, Steered individually or as a batch — or the run can be stopped outright. A Sending indicator locks a message until it is out. PTC mode, meanwhile, learns to expand commands and show their output inline.

Fixes and quiet items

Web connections now recover automatically after a disconnection; chat auto-scroll is fixed after sending or resizing; a Windows Python SDK startup crash is fixed; and process cleanup on Windows and supported Linux environments leaves fewer background processes behind. Long conversations — the through-line since 0.1.2 — get another round of lag and memory work, and referencing a long conversation now lets the model read content the preview omits on demand.

One item deserves a transparency note: feedback can be submitted without continuing a conversation, and per the notes, submissions include the relevant conversation content — while ordinary chat does not trigger this reporting. The notes describe the trigger boundary but not the destination or retention of submissions.

Also in the batch: pi-ai is bumped to a version supporting more new models, and the Web header gains an “Open in” action that hands the Workspace to an installed editor, IDE, terminal or file manager.
